OG Instruction

Laurie has over 17 years of experience in the field of education in both public, Independent, charter, and private schools. Additionally, she has a Masters in Elementary Education, holds a University of the State of New York Education Department Public School Reading Teacher Certificate K-12 and Public School Teacher Certificate, Ontario College of Teachers Certificate in Primary and Junior Levels, Special Education Part 1 Certification and ESL Part 1 & 2 Certification. She is now the Founder and Director of the OG Instruction Learning Centre.

Laurie’s dyslexia training began when her sons were diagnosed as severely and moderately dyslexic. Laurie obtained as much information and training as possible in regards to dyslexia and language-based learning disorders. She obtained her Associate Level, Certified Level, Fellow Level, and Accredited Training Fellow from the Academy, and began instruction with her sons and her students with wonderful success.

She has had extensive experience training teachers, providing 1:1 and small group OG Instruction at the Associate Level and Certified Levels. She continues to study the language and expand her knowledge and skills by studying such things as Structured Word Inquiry, Latin, and Greek.

She is a life-long learner, constantly updating her knowledge of the language and completing additional coursework and training in order to assist her students and trainees. She will never stop learning and helping others.

OG Instruction

Laurie continues to work with numerous professionals, as she has for the past 17 years, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, vision therapists, physical therapists. She worked with these professionals to assist her sons, and now often works with them with her students as a team to help remediate their dyslexia and its secondary characteristics. Working together as a team greatly benefits her students, and furthers everyone’s knowledge.

Laurie works and trains students and trainees to the utmost standards of the Academy. She ensures her trainees complete all of their training and practicum to the highest level so that they will receive their certification from the Academy and become members, to assist these children and provide the highest quality level of instruction.

Laurie is now the Director of the OG Instruction Learning Centre, a tutoring and teacher training center for students of all ages. As an Accredited Training Fellow, Laurie trains teachers, educators, tutors, special education, reading teachers, parents of children with learning difficulties, professionals in children’s health sectors, and individuals seeking a career in educational therapy using the Classroom Educator, Associate Level, Certified Level and Fellow Level. Laurie has trained teachers in such places as the U.S., Canada, Thailand, Hong Kong, Australia, Dubai, and Kuwait.

OG Instruction

Laurie has specialized in the field of learning difficulties and multisensory language remediation using the Orton-Gillingham approach. She has presented at numerous conferences and schools.

She is a passionate advocate for effective mediation of literacy skills and evidence-based teaching, particularly for students with language-based learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Dyslexia runs in her family, as both of her boys have dyslexia. She has personal as well as professional knowledge – she understands.
